Overview

Shanghai and its neighboring regions (Jiangsu, Zhejiang) form one of China’s most dynamic and upscale golf destinations, featuring a high concentration of world class championship courses, diverse designs (forest, lake, links, and wetland), and comprehensive resort amenities. The golfing season runs year round, with peak play from March to November (mild, humid climate; winters are cool but playable). Over 25 standard 18 hole courses in Shanghai; another 20+ in nearby Jiangsu (Kunshan, Suzhou, Wuxi) and Zhejiang (Pinghu, Ningbo). Most are within 1 hour of downtown Shanghai. Dominated by parkland/forest and lake courses; pure links layouts are rare but highly coveted (e.g., PGA An Ying, Dongzhuang Coast). Top architects include Jack Nicklaus, Nelson & Haworth, Peter Thompson, Robert Trent Jones Jr., and Jack Nicklaus II.
